31 rain water harvesting structures are now complete. These structures have been created in 20 villages; the impact has already been felt in 48 villages. Each of the 20 villages has a pani samiti. As detailed in the interim reports, the role of the pani samiti was to plan, expedite and oversee the creation of each of the structures in their respective villages. Those tasks now being complete it will now be their responsibility to keep an eye on the maintenance and protection of each of the structures and to make further plans for water and livelihood security in their village. As proposed a Water Federation composed of representatives of all the pani samitis was formed in 2012.
The project had originally been scheduled to end in June 2015 however, two structures had some work left on them by that date and have subsequently been completed. The 9 completed in 2015 saw their first monsoon this season and as with all earth works of this nature, there will be some post- monsoon modifications and strengthening required on the bunds. These are being undertaken as this report is being written. The maintenance of the bunds and the desilting of the lakes is a yearly process and the pani samitis, implementation partners and FORRAD will ensure that this takes place.
